Why did you select this song as your current single?
I wanted to feature Better Life because it represents that part in all of us that strives for more – even though present reality may be much different.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?
Better Life is the first song on my EP, Interstellar. It kind of sets the stage for my aspirations as an artist in general. Also, I felt this song is the perfect counterbalance to other “heavier” songs on the EP such as Time Machine.
What was the writing process for the song?
My producer is quite involved with the development of the musical content. He and I wanted to be sure the feeling conveyed in the track resonates with people. A song is no good, in my opinion, if it doesn’t ring true for the listener. So our writing process always has the listener in mind from day-one.
What do the song’s lyrics mean to you?
I gotta tell you, I can totally identify with every word in this song. If you’re like me, you’re out there pursuing your dream and sometimes stuff gets in the way of that. So this track reminds me to remain positive. I hope it does for everyone else too!
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
I love performing this song live. The crowd really gets into it because it becomes, like, some sort of anthem. When I perform this song, I just have a great time and get lost in the music.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
One song could never sum up who I am as an artist. C’mon, I’m a girl! Girls are complicated sometimes. We all know it’s going to take a whole bunch of songs to capture all of the emotions floating around! However, I do think hearing my EP will begin to give you a picture.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
We are currently getting ready to tape a series of interviews in the coming weeks. And yes, the official music video is coming! Given the popularity of Better Life, we were going to make a music video for it. However, my song Time Machine has been getting a lot of attention too. We will decide soon.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
I want my music playing when you are getting ready to go out. I want people to get lost in my music when their heart is broken. In other words, I’m motivated by creating music that is worthy of playing in the soundtrack of your life. Deep, huh? It’s true nonetheless!
