ARTIST COMMENT:

Why did you select this song as your current single?

I chose “So What You Sayin’ “ as my single because it makes a statement. It defines and introduces my lyricism, sound, and style of hip hop as an artist.

How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?

This single lets the listeners know hip hop is the heart of my music. The rest of the songs on my album are cohesive reflections of the same formula I used to make “So What You Sayin”. However, they convey inspirations from every genre to show that I am not a one-note artist.

What was the writing process for the song?

The writing process was very simple, as I wanted the lyrics to be just as hard, real, and gritty as the track.  So What You Sayin’ really sets the tone of what I’m about when it comes to my music and my sound.

What does this song’s lyric mean to you?

This song is an  introduction of myself to the world.  It represents fearlessness, and going against the grain. It’s in your face. I’m letting the world know I have arrived and change is imminent.

What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?

Haaahaahaa, I believe the energy the record has in person is just as amazing as the studio-recorded version.  I perform with a band, “The Commission” . I introduce them to my fans at the beginning of every performance with this record.

Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?

Absolutely! Once people hear this song they will definitely be able to identify a Vanessa Mullings verse, song, or hook. For sure!

Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?

Yes, there is a video.  The concept of the video was very straightforward, edgy, and has an authentic east cost feel.  We shot the entire video in one of the largest and most iconic rehearsal spaces in NYC, The Music Building. Madonna and Billy Idol are two of the many legends to use  this location to rehearse and refine some of their earlier hits.

One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?

The motivation behind my music is being true to myself  as an artist, making music that I love, and keeping my sound honest, relatable, and street!
