Eddie James brings us his Patrick Avalon produced single, “Hallelujah” Check it out below and get ready for the album coming this September.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
I have such a deep respect for the late Leonard Cohen that I wanted to pay homage by recording this song. He actually passed a few days before my birthday, on our final day of recording the song. My brilliant music producer, Patrick Avalon and I were moved to tears that day. No coincidence that we would finish that day. We were so deeply moved by that timing. As everything is… that was exactly as it should be.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album?
The album as you know is titled ‘Courage & Tenderness’. Both of those aspects permeate the intention of this song. My life is a paradox of emotions. Every song represents a range of feelings and is like a mini little world unto itself.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
Over the years I have attended dozens of music salons that master class his lyrics for this song. I’ve been in some of the most profoundly deep discussions/debates/argument about the meaning of his lyrics. To me they mean a cacophony of things. Like the definition of the word, the song can insight discordance and/or a crazy mixture of feeling and ideas. Like all things in life, different to every heart, soul and set of ears. I recorded five verses. Three of which are rarely done and one I believe one of has never or maybe just one been recorded.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
Well, I’m the lover archetype. I lead with my heart and perform with deep and honest passion. You decide.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
Sure, but not fully. I am like an ocean. Deep, mysterious, powerful and steadfast. Oh… and a lot of fun to hang around.
Is there a video planned and if so, what was the idea behind it?
There is a video in post-production right now but not of this song. The first track of the album is Meadowlark by Stephan Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin) and that song will be a short musical film. I plan to enter it into film festivals next season.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
To do service, to share my gifts and entertain. I want to tell stories and on this album, I’m telling about courage, strength, kindness, tenderness and love. I want to share beautiful melodies and try to articulate this sometimes ponderous but always wondrous world we live in.
