When we heard the soulful voice from the singer of “Loving You,” we had to reach out for an interview and find out the process of creating this soon to be hit. Find out how the song came together below as we speak with the artist know as Dasha.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
I selected “Loving You” because I felt it was the song that resonated most with me. I wrote it more than 10 years ago and every time I would revisit it, I was always feeling it. I wanted to come out with something I felt was classic, timeless and relate-able. It has a hard 90s R&B mix with some new sounds vibe and that’s what I am about. A nice appetizer to the full meal, if you will.
How does this single relate to the rest of the album?
It establishes the bases of sound for the whole project, which is R&B and the other tracks explore sonic from that center, if that makes sense.
What was the writing process for the song?
I wrote this song so long ago its hard to recall. I’m sure that I heard a beat at the time and recorded it on my phone, which is what I did back then. I remember being unable to sleep and up til 2am getting it all out. Then, I’d take that extra rough recording and play it in the car. If I could ride to it, then it was a keeper, which is something I still do. Over time, the instrumentation has changed because in this town, you lose touch with producers for one reason or another, and you are not able to use the same track without permission, well at least I don’t. So, more than 10 years later, I still loved it and it was reborn to what you hear today.
What do this song’s lyrics mean to you?
The song was about the agony of losing someone you truly loved and tried to move on from but just could not shake. The pain of realizing that what you wanted, you already had. Which is the story of most people’s lives. It also, shows the power of real love. It never dies.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
I hope it would be soul searching/shaking or inspiring to see me do this song live. I hope to make you think or search your heart for meaning that you can relate to. Every time I touch a stage, I do so with the intent to connect, even if it’s with one person.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
On some levels, yes, but I am the same artistically as I am in my everyday life, there are many layers, and The Howard Roark Project as a whole will relate a lot of them.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
Yes, the video is going to be released very soon and I’m excited! The video is about a relationship where one is all in and the other is constantly pushing the other away. Its a powerful, argumentative relationship but only because one side does not see what they have, until its too late
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
My motivation is life, love, sex, fear, faith…the human experience.
