RGYoung300dpiThe three members of rock band Ripple Green met in Kindergarten in small town Oklahoma. Their formative years were spent being mischievous friends who built slingshots, climbed trees and made short films. Soon however, upon leaving Elementary school, the idea to form a band was spawned before any of the members owned or played their instruments. To them, creativity and expression through music could provide an escape from the mundane life they faced in the plains.

As well as touring throughout the US and the UK, the band has performed at festivals such as South By Southwest, London Folk Festival, and Norman Music Festival. Ripple Green’s new music ties in similarities from Jack White to Portugal. the Man, while adding new developments in the band’s unique sound.

Ripple Green’s new project Timepiece  is due out July 31st on Dice and Drum Records.

Check out their new single before the release call, “Timepiece”.

Why did you select this song as your current single?

Timepiece as a single was the most natural choice since it was the first song we wrote particularly for this project. The song itself was the catalyst for the rest of the project.

How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?

Timepiece was born out of a pivotal time in our songwriting and spawned the approach that led to the music found in the rest of the EP. Also, the term Timepiece became the title of the entire project being that we wrote the project during an adventurous six months in England.

What was the writing process for the song?

We all thought the song was done months before recording but three days before we stepped into the studio, we tore the song apart and out came what everyone else knows as Timepiece. Final touches on lyrics and musicality all came to fruition in the last moments of recording and the process proved to be quite exciting.

What does this song’s lyric mean to you?

The song started out as a projection of longing for the sun. Particularly the sun of Oklahoma but it soon turned into an account of how everyone’s lives revolve around another person over time. With each passing of a personal connection leaving it’s lights and shadows upon the people involved.

What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?

Timepiece is a lot of fun to play live because we get the whole crowd clapping in beat with us and then we kick into the acapella intro. It’s a bit like a dynamic explosion of rhythm and melody.

Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?

Yes and no. The song captures a lot about our energy and focus as a band but we have always dabbled in diversity so no other song on the EP is quite like Timepiece.

Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?

The video for Timepiece was all around capturing the vibe of the song and turned out to be one of the most memorable nights for us as a band. We decided to shoot the video at Stonehenge which is one of the world’s oldest and largest Timepieces. At midnight during the summer solstice, we arrived along with 20,000 other individuals to experience Stonehenge without barriers. We stayed up all night long and captured just as many memories as we did footage.

One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?

There is no denying the power of music. On an individual, spiritual and communal level, music has the ability to convey, create, and unify like no other force. Our drive behind music is fiercely attached to its ability to bring people together and every show is an exercise to do so.
