Pairing the heart-on-sleeve sentimentality of Damien Rice with the earnest musical approach of Glen Hansard, Yamin gets to the heart of his music through an unchoreographed dive into honest emotion and lyrical introspection. His songs often describe the tumultuous times during the end of a relationship or when the threat of collapse is looming heavy over both people.

Why did you select this song as your current single?

I selected “Taking” to be my first single off my upcoming EP, because it felt right at the time. The song is about hope, peace and about how to make life better on this planet. With the recent terror attacks it just felt right.

How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape?

The single is the closing song of the EP. The EP, titled Concrete City, is telling a life story under the skyscrapers of NYC, how it can sometimes be harsh and lonely, while Times Square is still shining. “Taking” is all about giving hope and that in the end you are the only one that can make things better, doesn’t matter where you are in the world.

What was the writing process for the song?

The song was written in a cold February day earlier this year, while I was walking down Central Park and let the cold just freeze my bones and soul. I sat on a bench and just couldn’t stop writing. I came back to the hotel room and in a matter of minutes, composed the music to the lyrics.

What does this song’s lyric mean to you?

It gives me hope and let me see the bright side in things, I think it’s important these days when people are afraid to hang out in the streets and go to concerts (after the recent terror attacks all over the world).

What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?

The live performance is    a bit different than what you hear in the album. I am a solo artist, playing acoustic instruments with loop station pedal. It’s much more emotional and, for me, fun to see it live. I think there is a hidden side in live shows that I can’t really explain, but it makes the songs come out much stronger.

Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?

Absolutely yes. This song tells my own point of you on the world, reveals my inner places and let you know my life story much better (as originally I am coming from a place that is politically conflicted).

Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?

There is an un-official video for this song, which combined a footage of global conflict, wrapped up with footage of peace and hope.

One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?

My life, my love ones and the need to shout in order to try and make my little world a better place to live in.
