At only 14 years of age, Craig James is inspiring his fans with the wisdom and talent of an old soul. This single, co-written and produced by Arden Lo (Jamie Foxx, Coolio, Ice T, D.J. Quick, Eddie Griffin,) is a heartfelt ode to his late grandmother, who passed away from breast cancer when Craig was a child. His lyrics and performance demonstrate talent beyond his years. Check out this great interview with this young talent.
Why did you select this song as your current single?
I chose this song because it is near and dear to me. My grandmother was my world. I felt this would be a great way for me to express my feelings about losing her so young.
How does this single relate to the rest of the Album, EP or Mix-tape? (In this case you can say how it relates to the music that will come out next year.)
My current single is about lost, love, and awareness. The up coming songs will relate to this song by my expression of love.
What was the writing process for the song?
There is no really big process. I heard the beat and everything floated out from my heart, there was no writing involved.
What does this song’s lyric mean to you?
The song lyrics mean exactly how I felt about losing my MawMaw to cancer. I couldn’t understand at the time what was going on. I can recall everything now cause I felt really terrified when she was not around anymore. Everyone around me just keep talking about cancer.
What would it be like to see you in person performing this song?
It would be very heart felt. This is not just a song, its my true feelings. Uplifting for anyone whom ever had to deal with a family member having cancer.
Could your fans summarize who you are as an artist by this song?
Yes, I feel they can. Im sharing a piece of my heart with plenty more to come in the near future.
Is there a video planned and or completed and if so, what was the idea behind the video?
There is a video which will drop before January 2015. The video basically expresses my feelings of making it in the music industry and not having her around. Missing her beautiful smile, warm touches, and the love she always showed me.
One last question, what is your motivation behind your music?
My motivation behind my music is everyone who has been affected by losing someone to cancer. A disease that has claimed a lot of lives. Wanted to share a piece of my experience of not knowing what this disease really mean yet how it can change your life completely.
